Nickname: You think of one....a NICE one!
What is your name: Colin Alexander
Where were you born: Abilene, TX. 19...something
What made you decide to do music: It wasn't really a decision for me. It's in my blood. My mom, dad and sister all play musical instruments and sing; my dad was in a folk band in college during the 60s. For me, playing, experiencing and absorbing music are part of a lifestyle, a daily passion, without which I would be incomplete.
Who are your biggest influences: My earliest bass influences were: Adam Clayton from U2 (circa Joshua Tree/Rattle & Hum) and Sting (late Police/early solo). These days, they're joined by Chuck Rainey, Leland Sklar, Michael Manring, Victor Wooten, Nathan East, Will Lee, Pino Palladino, Michael Rhodes, Anthony Jackson, Jimmy Johnson, Freddie Washington, Marcus Miller, John Patitucci, Colin Moulding, etc.
How long have you been a musician: I've been playing professionally since the early 90s, but I've been a musician since I first picked up an instrument and/or sang. Possibly even in the womb.
What bands have you played with over the years: Quick Silver (1992-3); Lani Bartley (1992-2003); dirtyhelen (2002-3), Gilley's Dallas house band (2003-4), Scott Hall Band (2003-7); freelance: studio & stage (1995-present).
Favorite Music: Some of my favorite artists/bands/genres are: Sting/The Police, U2, Steely Dan, Béla Fleck & The Flecktones, Pat Metheny, Duncan Sheik, Elbow, Keane, Spymob, Celtic, New Age/Ambient/Nature, Choral, Classical, Showtunes; I like anything that moves me or reaches out and grabs me. Music usually has to have quality of meaning and depth to appeal to me. But there are always a few shameless exceptions...
Best gig ever performed: Probably a one-off sub gig I did at a military base in Honolulu, Hawaii. The vocalist the band accompanied was first on a bill of 3, opening for Bowling For Soup and then Montgomery Genrty. There were 20,000+ troops and their families in attendance for the concert.
First band you were in: Free Circus, a hair metal band when I was in Jr. High/High School. We played the likes of Poison, Motley Crue, Guns N' Roses, Warrant, Slaughter, Firehouse, etc.
First recording you owned: Sting - The Dream Of The Blue Turtles (1985)
Hobbies: Writing poetry, traveling the world, cigars, sudoku/crosswords (I'm a nerd), pointing out and correcting the numerous spelling/grammatical errors in the world!
Favorite part of ZuZu Peddals: The professionalism and quality of musicians. (And the misspelled second word!)
